Housatonic Avenue was temporarily closed July 13 at 4 a.m. between Young’s Field Road and Aspetuck Ridge Road when New Milford police found a vehicle with New York plates parked in Helen Marx Park after hours.

On approaching the vehicle, officers saw a male driver and a container on the seat with wires coming out of it, according to Lt. Larry Ash, New Milford police spokesman. The driver would not tell officers the purpose of the container.

The state police bomb squad was called to the park to investigate the container but found no explosives, Ash said.

The road was reopened by 9:20 a.m. The incident remains under investigation.
