A new gallery, The Harts Gallery, on Bank Street in New Milford is up and running and showing its first exhibit.

“Love & Sacrifice,” which will run through Sept. 30, features works by Evan Ambramson, Lauren Booth, Tealia Ellis Ritter, Elizabeth MacDonald, Sebastian Tillinger and Peter Wooster.

An artist talk with sculptor and installation artist Lauren Booth of Roxbury will be held Saturday, Aug. 8 at 4 p.m.

The gallery, headed by documentary filmmakers, photographers and activists Carmen and Evan Abramson of Bridgewater, is an artist-run space focused on building community and inspiring change through the questions raised by contemporary art.

The gallery will function both as a commercial venue for the sale of contemporary art as well as a nonprofit space offering community outreach through guest artist lectures, youth art and film workshops taught by gallery artists, live performances, independent film screenings at neighboring Bank Street Theater and arts education classes taught in both Spanish and English.

The gallery is open Thursdays through Sundays from noon to 8 p.m., Sundays from noon to 3 p.m. and by appointment.
