Handgun safety programs sponsored by the National Rifle Association will be held Nov. 10, Dec. 2, 15, 19 and 20 at 280 Kent Road in New Milford.

The one-day program taught by Herb Furhman of HF LearnSafety Firearms Training Center will offer knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for using or owning a handgun. A national written examination and live-fire range qualification will be conducted.

Program completion is a requirement for application for a state permit in Connecticut and most other states.

The state of Utah concealed carry firearms permit course, as taught in Connecticut, enables the permit holder to carry a concealed firearm in more than 30 states.

The next scheduled classes, all four-hour, one-time courses, will be Dec. 22 and Jan. 9. All documentation, including the FBI fingerprint card and instructor approved application, will be provided upon class completion
