Handgun safety program sponsored by the National Rifle Association (NRA) will be held May 1 and 16, June 19 and 27 at the shooters' pistol range in New Milford.

The one-day programs will offer knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for using or owning a handgun. A national written examination and live-fire range qualification will be conducted.

Program completion is a requirement for application for a state permit in Connecticut and most other states.

The National Rifle Association will also offer a "Personal Protection In The Home" course June 5 at the shooters' pistol range in New Milford. The advanced eight-hour course will focus on safe and efficient use of handguns for self-protection and family.

Included will be a presentation on criminal and liability law by attorney Thomas Allingham. Pre-registration is required.
