Gerald Smith, 84, was a self employed builder

Gerard Harold Smith, 84, of New Milford, died May 30 at New Milford Hospital. He was the husband of Elaine (Barry) Smith.

Mr. Smith was born Jan. 23, 1928, in Danbury, son of the late Gerard Harold and Florence (Hooper) Smith.

He served with the United States Navy and was a self-employed builder, retiring in 1997.

In addition to his wife of 58 years, he is survived by a son, Jay Smith, of New Milford; and a daughter, Maryallen Gaffney, of Bethel. He was predeceased by a daughter, Donna Jean Smith.

The Lillis Funeral Home of New Milford was in charge of arrangements.
