The owners of the Stop & Shop plaza, located at 164 Danbury Road (Route 7 South) in New Milford, are proposing to build a 77-seat restaurant in the plaza.

The restaurant would be built in the north front corner of the plaza.

A lease has already been signed with Five Guys customer hamburger restaurants, according to Willing Biddle, a principal in UB Litchfield LLC, which owns the plaza.

The New Milford Zoning Board of Appeals granted a variance June 17, reducing the number of required parking spaces from 30 to 16.

The application next goes to the Zoning Commission.

“We’ll clean up that area of the plaza,” Biddle said. “It will be a nice restaurant, with a patio. We expect it would be open by spring 2016.”

Five Guys is an international chain of restaurants with more than 1,000 locations in 47 states and six Canadian provinces, including a restaurant along Federal Road (Route 7 South) in Brookfield.
