FineLine Theater will present its production of “The Nutcracker” Dec. 16 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 17 at 1 and 6 p.m.

The production will be staged at New Milford High School on Route 7 South.

The performance consists of an abridged first act and has a running time of approximately two hours, including the intermission.

Each year in September young FineLine dancers audition for the various solo and principal roles.

Once the cast list is up rehearsals begin, the dancers learn choreography and perfect the dances for hours every week leading up to the show.

The principal roles are danced by the most senior students. The cast includes Michelle Randall of Washington as the Sugar Plum Fairy, Bobby Roda of Brookfield as the Nutcracker Prince, Ashley Mulhare of New Milford as the Snow Queen and Lily Anderson of Redding as Clara.

Choreography for the Nutcracker is created by Arlene Begelman, Elizabeth Cox-Fabrizzio, Kerry Gallagher, Elizabeth Parkinson, Ocean Severini and Scott Wise.

Costumes, created by Monica Harcken of Monica’s Corner in downtown New Milford, are coordinated by Kerry Schur.

The New Milford High School theatre team will keep lights and stage craft running.

Students prepare for their performances on the New Milford High stage by performing for local elementary and middle schools assemblies.

This year, they performed Dec. 6 at Brookfield School and Dec. 11 at Northville Elementary School.

FineLine Theatre Arts will also host youth from the Green Chimneys Residential program and groups from local senior centers in a continued effort to engage with the surrounding communities.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for senior citizens, and free for children under 12.

Tickets can be purchased at the door on the day of the performance.
