The Kent Film Festival has expanded into New Milford and been rebranded as the Litchfield Hills Film Festival.

The festival, which serves as a celebration of independent film and the filmmakers who create them, will be offered April 7-10 at locations in downtown New Milford.

Building on the Kent Film Festival's increasing reputation as an independent filmmakers' festival, founders and co-directors Frank and Patrice Galterio will continue to shepherd the event that brings tourism revenue to Litchfield County and has garnered the Governor's Award for Excellence in Culture & Tourism.

"We are delighted to be celebrating our sixth year in downtown New Milford, the town has truly opened its arms to us," said festival artistic director Frank Galterio.

"This year there is a feeling of excitement about the Connecticut films that we are screening at the Litchfield Hills Film Festival," he said.

"Along with all the films from across the country and around the world, we are truly an international film festival," he added.

Offerings will include screenings, workshops, panels and celebratory events.

Following is the schedule of events:

April 7: screenings at 10 a.m. at Bank Street Theater on Bank Street and 3 p.m. at The Maxx on Railroad Street.

April 8: screenings at 10 a.m. at the theater, 12:45 at the library on Main Street and 3 p.m. at The Maxx.

April 9: screenings at 9 a.m. at the library and 10 a.m. at the theater and The Maxx.

April 10: screenings at 10 a.m. at the theater, noon at The Maxx and 1 p.m. at the library.

Tickets will be available at several levels of access.

The festival has grown in renown as well as in size while building a foundation for the central goal of developing a permanent cultural film center.

The center will feature a production facility, film school and theater in which the best of independent features, documentaries, shorts, animation and world cinema will be presented year-round, as well as educational programs in which aspiring filmmakers can develop their craft.
