The criminal case in Litchfield Superior Court against Neil Fergus of New Milford was continued Tuesday to May 25.
He is charged with trying to kill his wife in front of their two young sons.
Mr. Fergus, 41, of Cortland Drive, remains in custody on a $1 million bond in New Haven.
He is charged with attempted murder, first-degree assault, third-degree assault against an elderly person, two counts of risk of injury to a child, first-degree burglary, home invasion and violation of a protective order.
Police accused Mr. Fergus of stabbing his estranged wife several times Nov. 14 in front of their sons, aged 5 and 7.
When his estranged wife ran into the house, Mr. Fergus reportedly followed and, while doing so, threw his 71-year-old mother-in-law to the ground, police said.
