The past year witnessed the passing of many people who have played significant roles in the shaping of their worlds and the Greater New Milford community.

Among them, Stuart Halpine, 85, was New Milford's first chief executive to be called mayor, from 1987 to 1989, after serving his country as a career diplomat.

John "Jay" McAvoy, 75, fondly known as "Papa Bull," helped develop and coach the Pop Warner youth football program in New Milford.
