A special poetry and music event to benefit the New Milford Food Bank and the town's homeless shelter will take place Nov. 16 from 7 to 9 p.m. in New Milford.

The event is in memory of Paul Rake, a homeless man who recently died, and will be at the First Congregational Church at 36 Main St.

Participating musicians will include Missy Alexander, Duane Andrews, Al Burgasser, Christopher Ellis, Jackie Hopkins, Mike Latini, Don Lowe, Susanna Marker and Bill Petkanas.

Poets, all of whom have published works, will include Anastasia Isabella, Joan Kantor, Donna Marie Merritt, Neil Silberblatt, Karen Silk, Susan Tuz and Faith Vicinanza.

Attendees are asked to bring canned or boxed food items such as pasta, sauces, pancake/waffle mix, cereal, oatmeal, soup, tuna, salmon, peanut butter and more; men's and women's winter coats, scarves, hats, gloves, thick socks, sweaters, thermal underwear and more; towels, blankets and new pillows; and toiletries such as soap, hand sanitizer, tissues, toilet paper, shampoo, shaving cream, disposable razors, toothbrushes, hairbrushes and more.
