YardApes in New Milford is seeking submissions for its day of service contest, a need-based initiative.
Contest winners, determined and vetted by YardApes founder Shayne Newman and his landscaping staff, must demonstrate a need for a green-space renewal and revitalization.
Last year's projects included a landscape renewal at the Children's Center at Aspetuck Avenue in New Milford, a revitalization of the green spaces of the Abbey of Regina Laudis on Flanders Road in Bethlehem, as well as for one New Milford resident.
"I thought it might be nice, given the economic climate, to once again open this up to homeowners and nonprofits," Mr. Newman said.
"After last year's efforts, we couldn't have been more proud, or felt more fulfilled," he said. "We sincerely enjoyed a day working together with the common goal of making a difference in our community."
"Green spaces were renewed, as was our belief in volunteerism and community outreach," Mr. Newman said. "And now we're looking forward to doing it again."
Both projects will be part of a nationwide Day of Service initiated by the national Professional Landcare Network lawn and landscape association.
Work will be done April 22.
Submissions should include a brief description of the green space. Photos are welcome.
