Elsie Peragine, 81, had a daughter in Sherman

Elsie J. Peragine, 81, a longtime resident of Patterson, N.Y., died Feb. 1, 2010, in Danbury.

Mrs. Peragine was born July 25, 1928, in New Fairfield, to Leslie and Emma (Davenport) Silkman, and graduated from Danbury High School.

She married William V. Peragine on Nov. 27, 1946. Mr. Peragine died June 19, 1998.

For Mrs. Peragine, family always came first, but her heart and home were open to all, as she cooked many a meal for shut-ins and was always very giving to those in need.

She was a charter member of the Putnam Lake VFW Ladies Auxiliary, the Catholic Daughters of America, the Patterson Republican Committee, a Daughter of the American Revolution, the New Fairfield Historical Society, the Putnam Lake Senior Center and the Italian American Club in Brewster.

Later in life, after her family was grown, she was a Realtor with Scout Realty in Brewster, N.Y.

Mrs. Peragine is survived by seven children, William D. Peragine and his wife, Cindy, of Brewster, Brenda Peragine, of Sherman, Neal Peragine and his wife, Martha, of Woodbury, Paula Sundlof and her husband, Gary, of Redding, Mark Peragine and his wife, Patsy, of Houston, Tex., Maria Peragine, of Pawling, N.Y. and Deana Peragine, of Patterson, N.Y.; 20 grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.

A funeral service will be held today (Friday) at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Brewster, 83 Main St., Brewster, N.Y.

Interment will follow at the Maple Avenue Cemetery in Patterson, N.Y.

The Beecher Funeral Home of Brewster was in charge of arrangements.
