Elinor (Bray) Burns, 78, of Kent, died peacefully and quickly at Danbury Hospital Nov. 21, 2010.

Mrs. Burns had resided at the Ridgefield Crossings Community for the past 14 months while stoically fighting the effects of Alzheimer's.

She was born Feb. 24, 1932, in Norwalk, and lived there until she attended the University of Connecticut. She was very proud of her UConn heritage.

Mrs. Burns moved to New York City and worked at Y&R (Young & Rubicom Advertising), where she spent her entire working career, starting as a fill-in receptionist and ending as chief estimator.

She loved Y&R and all her cohorts, with several becoming lifelong best friends.

In 1964, while in New York City, she met and married James F. Burns III, whom she loved and lived with until his death in 2005. They loved to travel the world.

In retirement, in the early 1990s, they moved to Kent, buying their first house and first car.

Mrs. Burns loved Kent and the people living there. She was always into something and was especially active with the Kent Library, the Kent Garden Club, the Informal Club and the various arts groups.

She is survived by four children, Dina Burns, Kim Burns and Melanie and Tom DeWit; two granddaughters, Cory and Katy Burns; and a niece and nephew, Doreen Bray and Steele Bray. She is also survived by her cat, BB.

Memorials may be made to the Kent Library Association, 32 North Main St., Kent, CT 06757-1511 or to Kent Kats, c/o the Country Clothes Shop, 11 North Main St., Kent, CT 06757-1512.
