Eldoris Eselby, 96, loved gardens

Eldoris (Fenn) Eselby, of Harwinton, 96, died Dec. 28 at her home. She was the widow of Robert Eselby.

She was born April 18, 1916, in New Hartford, daughter of the late Seeley A. and Mabel Hall Fenn. She graduated from Torrington High School and earned a secretarial associate's degree.

For most of her career, she held a position as a corporate secretary for a Connecticut manufacturing company.

For more than 50 years, she was a member of the Eureka Grange, Harwinton Agricultural Society and the Harwinton Congregational Church.

Mrs. Eselby was a nature lover at heart and particularly enjoyed the woods where she grew up in her longtime hometown of Harwinton. She had a passion for wildflowers and always enjoyed teaching those around her how to identify them. She was also an avid gardener of flowers and vegetables.

She was a fan of the University of Connecticut women's basketball team.

Mrs. Eselby was known for her kindness and generosity to others.

Mrs. Eselby is survived by two daughters, Gail E. Walker, and her husband, Ethan A. Walker Jr., of Northfield; and Sharon L. Martin, and her husband, of Washington; a daughter-in-law, Pauline H. Eselby, of Harwinton; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, Harold Fenn; a son, Robert F. Eselby; a grandson, Matthew Peyre, and a great-granddaughter, Naomi Frazier.

Services will take place privately.
