Dorothy Abseck of Roxbury died Dec. 28, 2009. She was the widow of Stuart Abseck, to whom she was married for 51 years.

Mrs. Abseck was born in New York City, N.Y., to Frances and John Solomka. She was a quintessential New Yorker.

She loved the theater, opera and museums.

Prior to being afflicted with rheumatoid arthritis, Mrs. Abseck was a sportswoman. An early skiing pioneer, she also enjoyed tennis, swimming, horseback riding and marksmanship.

After moving to Roxbury in the 1960s, Mrs. Abseck studied languages, floral design and gardening.

Mrs. Abseck was a Federated Garden Club judge and was president of the Roxbury-Bridgewater Garden Club twice.

Mrs. Abseck is survived by a granddaughter, Lulu; two daughters, Adrienne and Arlynn, of New York City and Roxbury; and a brother, Monroe Solomka, of Bilbao, Spain.

The Lillis Funeral Home of New Milford was in charge of arrangements.
