Doris Mathews, 77, lived in New Preston

Doris Janet Mathews, 77, of New Preston, died May 28 at home.

Mrs. Mathews was born July 23, 1934, in Brooklyn, N.Y., daughter of the late Walter and Viola Mabel (Gower) Thomas.

She lived in Sherman from 1976 until moving to Washington in 1997.

Mrs. Mathews is survived by a daughter, Laurie Stuhrcke, of New Milford; a brother, Walter Thomas Jr., of Hallendale Beach, Fla.; two sisters, Arlene Greene, of Sound Beach, N.Y., and Veronica Middendorf, of Briny Breezes, Fla.; and a grandson, Conor Stuhrcke, of New Milford. She was predeceased by a son, Jeffrey Mathews.

Friends may call today (Friday) from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge St., New Milford.

A private burial will take place tomorrow (Saturday) at Pinelawn Memorial Cemetery, Farmingdale, N.Y.
