The race for probate judge came down to the final count in the newly formed 12-town Litchfield Hills Probate District that includes Kent and Warren.

Democrat Diane Blick, of Litchfield, took 51 percent of the vote to defeat Republican Harwinton Probate Judge Patrick Wall.

"I want to congratulate my opponent," Mr. Wall said Wednesday. "I will do my best to assist her in the consolidation of the courts. I will be retiring and starting my law practice again. I want to sincerely thank all of my supporters."

Ms. Blick has served as judge of probate in the present Litchfield District -- covering Litchfield, Morris, Warren and Kent -- for the last three-and-a-half years.

Her combined probate court experience as a paralegal and assistant spanns 34 years.

She could not be reached Wednesday for comment.

Mr. Wall has served as probate judge in Harwinton for 11 years.

The 12-town Litchfield Hills Probate District encompasses Canaan, Cornwall, Harwinton, Kent, Litchfield, Morris, Norfolk, North Canaan, Salisbury, Sharon, Thomaston and Warren.
