David Peter Adair, 74, of New Milford, died Aug. 12 at New Milford Hospital. He was the husband of Margaret "Peggy" Mary Slowick Adair.

Mr. Adair was born Jan. 19, 1938, in Danbury, son of the late David P. and Mildred Hardy Adair.

A lifelong resident of New Milford, he served in the United States Marine Corps.

Mr. Adair received a bachelor of science degree from Western Connecticut State University and both a master's degree and a sixth-year certificate from Southern Connecticut State University.

He was a teacher of English at Danbury High School for 32 years, retiring in 2000.

In addition to his wife of 44 years, Mr. Adair is survived by a niece, Laura (Wells) Whitcomb, and her husband, Thomas; a nephew, Craig Wells and his wife, Amanda, and their daughter, Madeline; and a cousin, Maggie Adair, of South Kingston, N.Y.

Private burial will be at St. Francis Cemetery in New Milford.

The Lillis Funeral Home in New Milford is in charge of the arrangements.
