An annual harbinger of the garden season is in the works by the Roxbury-Bridgewater Garden Club.

The club will host its annual plant mart May 18 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Many traditions will be offered again this year, including the member's choice display of locally dug and divided perennials from member and area gardens at "load the wagon" prices, a raffle of plant specimens and garden ornaments, member-grown organic vegetable plants and garden boutique items.

Drifts of annuals, perennials and succulents will be on the lawn of the Bridgewater firehouse on Rt. 133 to greet shoppers.

All patrons will be given a ticket for door-prize raffles to be awarded on the hour at 10 and 11 a.m. and noon.

The door prizes will include discount coupons for purchases.

New this year also will be a container garden demonstration throughout the morning to illustrate the innovative ways to fill patio and porch containers with tropicals, perennials and bulbs to complement the usual annuals.

The annual event funds many of the club's outreach programs, including an annual scholarship, senior center workshops, elementary school programs and the Friendship Garden.

The club also plants and maintains public beautification gardens and planters, as well as produces the holiday wreaths for all town buildings.

Complimentary refreshments will be available.
