Chess, poetry events set at library

Kent Memorial Library has planned a variety of chess-related and poetry events for this month.
The library introduced a new chess courtyard last summer.
Offerings will include chess coaching and tutoring with instructor Gary Schenzer Thursday, Aug. 7, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; chess play al fresco Aug. 8 to 9 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and spontaneous poetry and chess play Aug. 10 from noon to 5 p.m.
In addition, Barrie Kavasch, the library's chess master and Poetry Circle facilitator, will lead poetry events.
Offerings will include "Poetry as an Easy Flow" for all ages Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (share favorite poems); "Haiku: Brief Joyful Observations of August," with Kavasch and others, Aug. 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and "Create Your Own Poetry Journal" Aug. 9 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
