Carol June (Hollister) Conklin, 76, of Kent, died May 17, 2010, at New Milford Hospital.
Mrs. Conklin was born in Derby, the daughter of the late Walter Pond Hollister and Lillian Wheeler Hollister. She grew up in Washington Depot and Roxbury.
Mrs. Conklin attended Washington schools and Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, majoring in religious studies.
While at Bates, she met her future husband, the Rev. George Clark Conklin Jr.
The couple married in 1955 and resided in West Hartford until they moved to San Mateo, Calif., in 1962. There, she was Christian education director at United Church of Christ, Hillsdale.
Mrs. Conklin began working in local schools and earned her elementary teaching credential in 1975.
In 1979, she returned to Connecticut, continuing teaching work at Shepaug Valley Middle High School in Washington, Kent Center School in Kent and Housatonic Valley Regional High School in Falls Village, retiring in 2006.
Mrs. Conklin enjoyed singing with the Kent Singers and church choirs, and working in her garden.
Ms. Conklin is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Karen Lee Conklin and Stephen R. Hulkse, of San Jose, Calif.; a sister, Sylvia H. Roberg, of Bantam; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Jere Hollister, of Bridgewater; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her beloved cat, Duffy.
A memorial service will be held July 10 at 11 a.m. at Kent Congregational Church.
