FirstLight Hydro Generating Company, the owner of Candlewood Lake, has grandfathered in all 11,212 existing structures along the 79-mile shoreline of the lake.

In addition, the lake owner has grandfathered in 7,104 structures located on the waters of the lake under its Shoreline Management Plan of 2013.

FirstLight’s non-conforming structure report, required by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, under which the structures were accepted, has been approved by FERC.

While 222 of those residences, or portions of them, were not constructed with FirstLight or its predecessor’s permission, FirstLight has grandfathered them with the understanding the vegetative buffer between the lawns and shoreline be implemented within five years, as per the Shoreline Management Plan requirements.

The vegetative buffer plan was issued in November 2014.
