Hickory Stick Bookshop in Washington will hold “Banned Books Read Out Loud: Celebrate the Freedom to Read” event next Friday at 7 p.m.

The event will celebrate Banned Books Week, which runs Sunday through Oct. 3.

Titles challenged this year include “Kite Runner” by Khaled Hosseini (challenge rejected after review), “Drama” by Raina Telgemeier (decision pending), “My Princess Boy” by Cheryl Kilodavis (challenge rejected) and “This Day in June” by Gayle Pitman (challenge rejected).
