NEW MILFORD — A talk on bike trails and how they relate to economic development in a community is set for Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. in the library at Sarah Noble Intermediate School, Sunny Valley Road.

Tom O’Brien, of New Milford Bike Walk, and Patti Smith Jacobus, founder of Simsbury Free Bike will talk about the importance of bringing more cycling to New Milford and Western Connecticut. They will explain how the growth of cycling and trail systems can improve the health and economy.

O’Brien will talk about The New Milford River Trail. Jacobus will describe Simsbury’s experience of being recognized by the League of American Bicyclists as Connecticut’s first Bicycle Friendly Community and earing the Silver-level Bicycle Friendly Community designation in 2014.

The event is sponsored by the New Milford Democratic town Committee and open to the public free of charge.

Democratic Mayoral Candidate David Gronbach will begin the evening and introduce the speakers. There will be opportunity for audience members to join the conversation.
