Barbara Chappuis, 82, a founding 'mother' of NVD

Barbara A. Chappuis, 82, of New Milford, died Jan. 7 at Danbury Hospital. She was the wife of the late Alan Roy Chappuis.
Mrs. Chappuis was one of the founding "mothers" of the Northville Volunteer Fire Department, and a 50-year member of the Northwestern Connecticut Girl Scout Council, where she served as a leader and member of the board of directors.
She was also a member and secretary of the Hartcourt Foundation of New Milford.
She was an avid raccoon hunter, but only hunted out her bathroom window.
Mrs. Chappuis is survived by a daughter, Sharon A. Chappuis, and her partner, Linda A. Miano, of New Milford; two grandsons, Alan Anthony Chappuis and Andre Anthony Chappuis, of New Milford; a brother, Duey Adams, and his wife, Sally, of New Milford; two sisters-in-law, Linda Stickles, and her husband, Alan, of Freeville, N.Y., and Arlene Chappuis, of Daytona Beach, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Raymond Lee Chappuis, and a brother, Ted Adams.
Friends may call Sunday, Jan. 13, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge St., New Milford.
A funeral service will take place Monday, Jan. 14, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. A private burial will take place at the Northville Cemetery in New Milford.
