By 2007, that amount had increased to 3.8 billion.

We have much better remedies today for headaches, cancer and other diseases than civilization had centuries or even decades ago. Yet, the omnipresence of pharmaceuticals is worrisome to many.

These medications cost society a lot of money. Some may not be necessary. And they have serious side effects.
