Appreciates help with 'holiday basket' project

To the Editor:

Many thanks to everyone who contributed to the 2011 Washington holiday basket project.

This was truly a successful collaborative effort -- individuals, businesses, schools and organizations working to meet a need.

I am always humbled by the quantity and quality of food and gifts donated each year.

It's amazing how much can be accomplished when a community makes those who are struggling a priority.

Some opened their wallets and some opened their pantries but all opened their hearts to make the holiday special for families in difficult economic situations.

I would also like to offer a special thank you to the men and women who donated their time and energy making phone calls and deliveries, stocking shelves and packing boxes.

Without these volunteers the project could not continue.
