Alfred R. Zaloski, 84, died July 30 in Clearwater, Fla. He was the husband of Frances W. Zaloski.

He was born May 26, 1929, in Bridgeport. He lived most of his life in New Milford and Southbury. He graduated from New Milford High School in 1947 and from Washington State College in 1953.

He was an avid athlete and attended college on a basketball and baseball scholarship. He had signed a contract to play with the then Brooklyn Dodgers, but did not get a chance to play because of the draft.

He entered the Marine Corps Officers Training School during the Korean conflict and was commissioned first lieutenant.

After retiring from his career as an independent claims adjuster, he moved to Florida to enjoy the sun, golf and watching the spring training baseball games.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a sister, Dorothy A. Zaloski, of Clearwater, and several nieces and nephews.

He was buried in the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla.

Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home in Clearwater was in charge of arrangements.
