Alfred J. Ballard, 94, of Danbury, died Aug. 23 at Filosa Care Center in Danbury. He was the widower of Edna Holmes Ballard.

Mr. Ballard was born March 6, 1918, in Danbury, a son of the late Willis and Anna Porwitzki Ballard.

He attended Danbury schools and was a 1938 graduate of Danbury High School.

Mr. Ballard served with the U.S. Army during World War II, having served in the Pacific Theater.

A longtime employee of Danbury Hospital, he retired in 1989 after 31 years of service.

He was an avid photographer.

Mr. Ballard is survived by a stepdaughter, Edna Holmes, of Danbury; a sister, Eileen Ash, of Lancaster, Pa.; a granddaughter, Patricia Sheehan, of Morehead City, N.C.; and three great-grandchildren, Brittany Plue, of Virginia Beach, Va., Raymond Plue, of Newport News, Va., and Jondelle Plue, of New Milford; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife of 28 years, he was predeceased by his siblings, Emmett Ballard, Willis Ballard and Ida Barney.
