The After School Arts Program's (ASAP) Summer Theater Intensive will culminate with a performance of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" July 15 at 5:30 p.m. in Washington.

The free performance will be staged at Shepaug Valley High School on South Street.

During the two-week summer theater intensive, participants took acting, set and costume design classes, as well as rehearsed for their performance.

Director/writer Emily Hubelbank, professional local artist Jon Olivieri and professional costume designer for off-Broadway plays, Lesley Neilson-Bowman, led these classes.

"I'm so impressed by how hard these actors are working, but even more so by how supportive and encouraging they are with each other," Mr. Hubelbank said. "To put together a show in just nine days is always a challenge, but to put together the incredibly funny show that they've created is exceptional."
