STRATFORD -- Two people escaped injury Wednesday night after the Buick Regal in which they were driving exploded in flames.

Assistant Fire Chief Lance Edwards said the incident occurred at Broadbridge Avenue and Second Hill Lane, when the driven noticed smoke coming up under the seats around 6:30 p.m.

Shortly after he and a passenger exited the car, it exploded into flames. Firefighters were on the scene for an hour, and traffic was diverted from the blaze. The identity of the driver was unavailable, and the fire is under investigation.
