Planting
The week of April 16th every student at Washington Primary School planted seeds for the Judea Garden. This community garden began in 2009 with the goal of providing fresh produce for member of the community with limited financial resources. The students planted their cantaloupe, watermelon, basil, sunflower, zinnia and nasturtium seeds in pots they made themselves from newspaper. This was one of their "Green Week" projects in recognition of Earth Day. The seeds will be taken care of by the students through May until they can be transplanted to the garden in early June. This project gave the students the opportunity to learn about growing seeds as well as the experience of helping their community and the environment.
Pictured in the photo are parent volunteer, Jenn Pote with Trey LaMay, in the background waiting their turn, left to right, Spencer Campbell, Annabelle Churyk, Michael Andrews and Rachel Hofmann. The planting was coordinated with Washington Primary School by volunteer Michelle Gorra.
