Storm fells tree in Sherman

Published 1:54 pm, Thursday, July 26, 2012
  • A quick-hitting storm that struck Sherman about 5 p.m. on Tuesday, July 24, 2012, caused at least one significant casualty, this old ash tree on Brinsmade Lane. Powerful winds, accompanied by heavy rains, lasting for probably less than 10 minutes, caused the tree to split and crash. The falling tree brought down most of the nearby wires to about four or five feet off the ground. Brinsmade Lane is a dead-end street, so all residents from 17 Brinsmade to its end were either blocked in or blocked out until CL & P and town workers were able to clear the road and restore the wires during the course of the night.
