BRIDGEWATER

KD MacDonald of Bridgewater was named to the dean's list for the spring 2011 semester at Quinnipiac University in Hamden.

Colette Bennett (advanced education studies for teachers), Ian Carr, (bachelor's degree in arts and design) and Sara Spinelli (master of arts degree in teaching) graduated in 2011 from Sacred Heart University in Fairfield.

Pianist Angus Li, an eighth-grader from New Milford, was among eight music students in the state and 30 in the tri-state area who received certificates of achievement and a recital Jan. 14 at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

The Carnegie Hall Royal Conservatory Achievement Program awarded 2011 Certificates of Excellence for top marks on assessments in the academic year ending in August 2011. The winners performed at a public recital and award ceremony at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall.

The certificates are awarded each academic year to achievement program students who achieve the highest standard of excellence in their respective state.

Recipients must score at least 80 percent on their examination and completed theory requirements for their respective level and discipline.

Michael Vita of New Milford toured with a Drum Corp International drum corps during the summer of 2011 (see photo). Michael is studying music education at Central Connecticut State University in New Britain.

Megan K. Beecher of New Milford, daughter of Thomas and Amy Beecher of New Milford and a 2008 graduate of New Milford High School, made the dean's list at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa.

Anastasia Kouloganes, daughter of Peter and Cheryl Kouloganes, was named to the fall semester dean's list at the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences at the University of Maryland (see photo). Miss Kouloganes, who graduated from New Milford High School in 2011, earned a 4.0 GPA for the semester.

The following New Milford students were named to the fall semester dean's list at the University of Connecticut: David Dunleavy, Michael Bellagamba, Danielle Cox, Alicia Fallanca, Alexandra Goetjen, Amanda Groccia, Daniel Holland, Kevin Karpich, Kerri Lipton, William McLachlan III, Vincent Montemurro, Alyssa Najm, Madeline Naventi, Ashley Ortiz, Christina Ostner, Michael Pace, Chelsea Paquin, Alexander Pryzgoda, Tea Psorn, Jessica Rehaag, Julia Reilly, Erin Riley, Dipanjan Saha, Garon Scott, Ashley Socotch, Amanda Sotero, Kyle Sullivan, Paris Thalassinos, Patrick Tishion and Matthew Zane.

Kelly Federle earned a master of science degree in nursing from Sacred Heart University in Fairfield.

Kelsey Eng, Kaitlyn Flynn, Emily Hauser and Kathryn Kelly were named to the dean's list for the spring 2011 semester at Quinnipiac University in Hamden.

Kathryn Baxter, daughter of Ken and Peg Baxter, was named to the fall semester dean's list at Judson College. Eligible students must have completed a minimum of 15 hours with no incompletes and earned a grade point average of at least 3.7.

New Preston

Nikole Amon was named to the fall semester dean's list at Lasell College. She is a member of the Class of 2015 majoring in history.

ROxbury

Christopher Truini, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Truini, was named to the fall semester honor roll at Salisbury School in Salisbury. He is a member of the Class of 2012.

Jessica Bisignano was named to the fall semester dean's list at the University of Connecticut.

Benjamin T. Metcalf, the son of Jonathan and Teresa Metcalf, graduated from Colby College in Waterville, Me., with a bachelor of arts degree in English and government. He is a graduate of The Gunnery in Washington.

Sherman

Robin Carey was recently elected president of Susquehanna University's Students in Free Enterprise team in Selinsgrove, Pa.

Additionally, she was among the SIFE team members who claimed a league championship March 24-25, 2011 at the SIFE USA Regional Competition in Philadelphia.

The team advanced in May to the National Exposition in Minneapolis, Minn.

During the academic year, the Susquehanna University SIFE team logged more than 1,700 hours designing and implementing 21 projects to help more than 17,000 people in the community. The projects included working with elementary- and secondary-school students on educational ventures, assisting the local community and its businesses, and supporting the Susquehanna campus with "go green" initiatives and corporate partnerships.

Ms. Carey, who is majoring in accounting, is a 2008 graduate of New Milford High School. She is the daughter of Kevin and Pam Carey.

Chris Gomez has graduated from the University of Connecticut.

Gabriel G. Carino was named to the dean's list at Fairfield University, where he is studying in the Dolan School of Business.

Lauren Castaldi, Sarah Gomez and Gregory Harris were named to the fall semester dean's list at the University of Connecticut.

Kimberly Layman was presented Growing as a Global Citizen this school year during the 11th academic excellence conference at Keene State in New Hampshire.

Helena Tiedmann, Class of 2013, recently received the Mineralogy Prize in Geology at Beloit College's Honors Day convocation.

The event honors outstanding students and their accomplishments. The award is given annually by the faculty of the department of geology to the individual showing promise in the study of crystallography and mineralogy.

Melissa Brown was named to the fall semester dean's list at the University of Connecticut.
