State Rep. Richard Smith received the Republican nomination as the party's incumbent candidate for the General Assembly 108th District.

The district's GOP convention took place May 16 in Sherman.

First Selectman John Hodge of New Fairfield put Mr. Smith's nomination forward.

"I thought Richard did a spectacular job in his first term," Mr. Hodge said. "He dug his heels right in and was constantly communicating, getting his towns' input -- even texting from the (legislature) floor when a new bill came up."

No Democrats have come forward as candidates for the 108th District seat, which represents Kent, Sherman, New Fairfield and a portion of New Milford.
