New Milford Mayor Pete Bass thanked the community for all of the donations made over the recent holiday season, which he said helped many residents.

During Thanksgiving, “a bounty of food” was collected to feed 1,020 residents. The Greater New Milford Women’s Club, Western Connecticut United Way, the Easley family, Coldwell Banker all donated, Bass said at a recent Town Council meeting.

More than 240 children were able to choose presents for their brothers and sisters at Christmas through Social Services’ sibling shopping spree.

The Santa Fund provided gifts and clothing for more than 490 local kids, as well as gift cards for 65 disabled adults.

Bass repeated the director of social services’ praise and said this couldn’t have been accomplished without the help of the schools, neighborhoods, town employees, local businesses, civic groups and churches.

“It’s the community pulling together for wonderful, worthwhile endeavors,” Bass said.
