NEW MILFORD

Capt. Jonathan D. Sauer, a native of New Milford, has been named commander of Delta Company, 6th Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment at Fort Campbell, Ky.

Capt. Sauer is a 2006 graduate of the United States Military Academy, having earned a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering, and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the aviation branch.

He completed flight school at Fort Rucker, Ala.

He was assigned to the 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade at Fort Bragg, N.C., from which he was deployed to Afghanistan in Operating Enduring Freedom in 2009.

Capt. Sauer's awards and decorations include an Air Medal, an Army Commendation Medal, a National Defense Medal, an Afghanistan Campaign Medal with one star, a Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal, a Global War on Terrorism Medal, an Army Service Ribbon, an Overseas Service Ribbon, a NATO Medal, a Meritorious Unit Citation, a Parachute Badge and an Army Aviator Badge.

Capt. Sauer will be deployed to Afghanistan later this summer.

He is married to Elizabeth Sauer, of Hope Mills, N.C. He is the son of David and Hansine Sauer, of New Milford, and brother of Joel Sauer, of Leesburg, Va.
