STRATFORD -- A Milford man has been charged with stealing more than $150,000 in wire and other electrical components from a commercial kitchen supply company.

Company officials found out about the thefts, which had been going on since 2007, when they checked eBay, police said.

Leonard Rivera, 39, of Welchs Point Road, Milford, was charged Wednesday with first-degree larceny.

Officials for Kitchen Brains, on Honeyspot Road, complained to police that they were doing an inventory of electrical wire and came up short. At the suggestion of one of their workers, company officials checked on eBay and found photographs of the company's wire for sale on the website, police said.

When police confronted Rivera, who had worked for Kitchen Brains since 2005, they said he confessed to stealing hundreds of feet of Teflon wire and other electrical components and selling them on six different eBay accounts. He didn't know how much he had made.

But police said they were able to determine that Rivera stole and subsequently sold 2,230 company items valued at $153,808.94.

Rivera was released after posting $75,000 bond.
