A $500,000 Open Space and Watershed Land Acquisition grant has been awarded by the state to the Kent Land Trust toward the purchase of Camp Francis.
The once-active Girl Scout camp along the Kent-Warren boundary covers 253 acres at the end of Kent Hollow Road.
The Kent Land Trust has been negotiating purchase of the property for open space from the Girl Scouts of Connecticut.
The grant program, administered by the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), assists land purchase for open space preservation using state bonds and funding from the 2005 Community Investment Act.
