Holiday events on tap in Gaylordsville

Gaylordsville will host its annual holiday celebration Nov. 30 to Dec. 1.

The Gaylordsville United Methodist Church on Route 7 will host its Christmas fair Nov. 30 from 7 to 9 p.m. and Dec. 1 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Offerings will include the sale of handmade quilted items, crafts and ornaments, cheese, jewelry and baked goods, a presentation of Ginny Smith and Eleanor Hills' all-occasion cards, a cookie walk, a silent auction and children's activities.

The Merwinsville Hotel will open its "Christmas in Gaylordsville" celebration Nov. 30 with a reception from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Following the opening reception, the historic hotel will be open Dec. 1 and 2 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The hotel will be decorated for the holiday, including a display of nutcrackers, Santas, Christmas villages, snow globes and trains.

The reception will include hors d'oeuvres, beverages, caroling and music by the Loco Fedora Barbershop Quartet.

Offerings Dec. 1 and 2 will include story time at 11 a.m. each day, the sale of goods by local artists, visits with Santa's youngest son, Nathan, and baked goods from Mrs. Claus' bakery.

Admission is $20 for hotel members and $25 for nonmembers the day of the reception, or $20 for nonmembers if paid by PayPal. Admission to the events the following two days will be free.

The Gaylordsville Historical Society will host an open house Dec. 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Little Red Schoolhouse on Gaylord Road.

Gifts will be available for purchase and refreshments will be served.

nThe Oratory of the Little Way will host its holiday open house Dec. 1 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Offerings at the Oratory Lane center will include tours of the retreat center, music and caroling, the screening of a classic holiday film, refreshments, cookie decorating, a scavenger hunt, potato sack and three-legged races and other activities.

The Gaylordsville Volunteer Fire Department and its Ladies Auxiliary will host a ham dinner Dec. 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the firehouse on Route 7, just north of the Gaylordsville bridge.

Photographs with Santa will be offered.

Admission is $12 for adults and $8 for children 6 and older.

The community Christmas tree will be lighted Dec. 1 at 7 p.m.

The Ladies Auxiliary of the fire department will serve hot chocolate and cookies.

Caroling will follow.

The life-sized crèche, created by the Elsessers, will no longer be offered.
