Tabitha Fazzone has been endorsed by the Sherman Republican Town Committee as its candidate for tax collector in the November municipal election.

She was endorsed unanimously at a recent meeting.

Fazzone, formerly an assistant in the tax office, will fill a vacancy on the slate created by longtime tax collector Pat Werme, who retired from her position and withdrew her name as a candidate for re-election.

"Tabitha is an excellent candidate and we are delighted to add her to an already very strong ticket," said George Linkletter, chairman of the Sherman RTC.

"Tabitha has direct, hands-on experience in the tax office," said First Selectman Clay Cope. "She knows the procedures and priorities of our tax collection process, and she has already completed half of the requirements to become certified as a tax collector in Connecticut.

"With her several years of experience in our tax office, she will be able to hit the ground running with very little on-the-job training, which will be an immediate benefit to our taxpayers."

"Like so many before me, I have fallen in love with Sherman," Fazzone said. "I am proud to live in Sherman and always highly recommend our wonderful community to friends outside of town. Now, I want to give something back by building on the successful record of Pat Werme, who trained me for these duties."

Fazzone has lived in Sherman for five years and is married to T.J. Fazzone, who was born and raised in Sherman.

They have three children, Isabella 11, Nicolas, 9, and Dominic, 8, who attend the Sherman School.
