A festive day and scrumptious eating were the rewards for patrons Aug. 6 as the Community Culinary School of Northwestern Connecticut, based in New Milford, hosted its inaugural, old-time, family picnic.

The benefit event, with proceeds going to the school, was offered at Harrybrooke Park in New Milford.

Food was prepared by Community Culinary School graduates, under the direction of chef instructor Blythe Roberts.

The menu featured hot dogs, hamburgers, fried chicken, corn on the cob, potato salad, green bean and tomato salad, baked beans, pasta salad and watermelon.

Patrons engaged in games, won prizes and participated in a free drawing as well as a 50-50 drawing.
