A beautiful evening and the spirit of the holidays inspired hundreds to gather Dec. 15 on the Village Green in New Milford to raise their voices in the singing of Christmas carols and holiday favorites.

The event was the 38th annual Carol Sing, started with the New Milford Commission on the Arts by New Milford resident Skitch Henderson, then the conductor of the New York Pops.

Henderson died in 2005, yet the Carol Sing goes on as strong as ever, still sponsored by the Commission on the Arts.

Members of the New Milford High School chorus, under the direction of Bob Keck, were on hand with former NMHS band director Al Bayers Jr. to lead the throng in song from the bandstand.

For the youngest among the assemblage, Santa Claus paid a special visit.
