Weantinoge Heritage Land Trust in New Milford will host a family farm open house at the Smyrski Farm Oct. 17 from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Festivities will include pony rides, hay rides, face- painting, games, displays of farm animals and antique farm equipment and guided nature walks at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

Families are invited to bring a picnic lunch. Beverages and snacks will be provided at the 205-acre farm located on the north end of Merryall Road, just south of the road's intersection with Bear Hill Road.

Over the past year, the farm has undergone a transformation.

Now home to a herd of Black Angus cattle, the fields are restored, new fences have been installed and barns repaired.

The historic red barn has received state-wide attention, most recently featured on WFSB, Channel 3.

"The farm is a magical place, full of the legacy and history of New Milford's farming community," said Liba Furhman, Weantinoge's executive director. "We want everyone to have the opportunity to share in its beauty first hand."

Parking and entrance will be in the north field.
