The deadline to switch to Medicare Part D may have past, but residents may still sign up for Medicare Advantage plans through March 31.
Advantage plans usually cover prescription drugs and pay for hospital and medical care.
Functioning like HMOs, Medicare Advantage plans are attractive to seniors because they usually cost less than having Medicare and Medigap coverage, according to a press release issued by the senior services counselors at New Milford Senior Center.
The majority of Advantage plans, however, require use of providers who are in the network.
Co-pays apply.
The Medicare Advantage plans in the Greater New Milford area include HealthNet, Connecticare, Aetna and Secure Horizons.
The senior services counselor recommended anyone considering a Medicare Advantage plan speak with an agent or a counselor.
For more information, call the senior center at 860-355-6075.
