For one afternoon in early October, Bank Street in New Milford will be home to a street festival.

Homeward Bound, a shop on Bank Street, is spearheading the planning for an inaugural Bank Street Festival, to be held Oct. 11 from noon to 5 p.m.

Since opening shop three years ago in the village center, "It has been my dream to have a street festival with art, music, dance and food that the whole family can enjoy," said Kathy Walsh, co-owner of the store.

The Village Center Organization has provided support for the festival and the town has approved turning Bank Street into a pedestrian-only zone for the day.

Ms. Walsh, Elizabeth Parkinson of Fine Line Theatre Arts, Marydale DeBor, vice president of New Milford Hospital, and Jayson Roberts of Village Center of the Arts are working together with Bank Street merchants to coordinate events.

Festivities will include children's activities, music by local folk and blue grass musicians, as well as in-store events at Bank Street businesses.
