A New Milford family is this year's local ambassador family for the March of Dimes annual March for Babies April 25 in Danbury.

Matt and Emily Mellen and their daughter, Sadie, will participate in the 10 a.m. walk at the City Center Green.

Registration for the 5- or 3-mile walk will begin at 9 a.m.

The fundraiser honors babies born healthy and those who need help to survive.

During her pregnancy, Ms. Mellen developed preeclampsia, a condition that includes maternal high blood pressure and can endanger both mother and child.

Sadie's heart rate soared and, as a result, Ms. Mellen delivered the baby nine weeks early.

Sadie weighed 4 pounds, 1 ounce and spent a month in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) before being released.

Today, Sadie is a vibrant 5-year old, despite being born with a hole in her heart and supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) because of her premature birth.
