-Kathy Henkel of New Milford will celebrate the grand opening of her new fitness studio tomorrow (Saturday), June 12 from noon to 4 p.m.

The celebration will be held at the Connecticut Sports Arena at 32 Still River Drive.

Classes will begin Monday, June 14.

Mrs. Henkel will offer a full range of fitness services, including personal training, STRIKE kick-boxing, belly dance FIT classes and more.

-An afternoon garden party will be held July 17 from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. to benefit the VNA Northwest's Hospice program.

The event, based on the theme "The Great Gatsby," will take place on gardens at 10 Litchfield Road in Harwinton.

In addition to tours of the gardens, an early dinner of salmon and filet mignon, as well as hors d'oeuvres, drinks and desserts will be provided. A donation is $25 per person is suggested.

-The New Milford Republican Town Committee recently presented Scott Melatti and Donna Acosta of Scott's Landscaping with a community service award.

The 10-year-old business has supported the growth of New Milford through the creation of over 25 jobs and by enhancing its location while expanding business at 322 Kent Road, according to a GOP press release.

-Union Savings Bank, which has a branch in New Milford, recently co-sponsored with Accounting & More, LLC in Litchfield a small business evening seminar at Litchfield's Oliver Wolcott Library to introduce local employees to QuickBooks accounting software (see photo on this page).

The seminar is one of several being planned in the region.

-Joe's Salon on Bank Street in New Milford recently made a donation to support the Gulf Coast disaster through the NCA Disaster Relief Fund.

The fund has helped support salon professionals affected by Hurricane Katrina, wild fires in southern California, flooding in the Midwest and tornadoes in Kansas.

-Joan Tomlinson, owner of Joan's Candy Cupboard in New Milford, has announced her business has moved from 17 Church St. to 5 Church St.

The store, which is beginning its fifth year in business, is open Mondays through Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The store is slated to open in July on the lower level of the mall near Macy's.
